President Tinubu Appoints John Enoh As New Sports Minister

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu as appointed Senator John Enoh as the new Minister of Sports following the announcement of other ministers and their portfolios.

John Enoh is a Cross River State-born politician who served as a Senator in 2015b where he represented Central Senatorial District of the state.

The 57-year-old holds a first degree in Sociology and a masters degree in Demography from the University of Calabar.

He is vast in the area of farming and arable land aside from being a politician.

Senator John Owan Enoh was born in 1966 into the family of Pa Owan Enoh, Agbokim Waterfalls in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from the University of Calabar, where he graduated as the best student in 1988 with 2nd Class Honours “Upper Division.” He furthered his education at the University of Calabar Graduate School, where he acquired his master’s (Hons) in Demography and proceeded to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM). The Senator also attended several courses abroad. These include a course in Public Financial Management at Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University (Executive Education), Telecoms Regulatory Master Class in Bath, UK, Law Making for the Communication Sector at BMIT, Johannesburg, South Africa, Influence and Negotiation at Stanford Graduate School of Business, and an MBA (Master of Business Administration) at Harvard University Graduate School, among others.

As an accomplished educationist and politician, John Enoh lectured for 7 years at the University of Calabar, Calabar, between 1991-1997. Senator Enoh’s political journey started from the Cross River State House of Assembly between 1997-2003, where he served as the Minority Leader and later Chairman of the Committee of Information. He then proceeded to the National Assembly to represent Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency for a period of 12 years, from 2003-2015, where he held numerous positions, including Chairman of the Committee of Finance and Chairman of the Committee of Budget and Appropriation. He then proceeded to the Senate in 2015 and served as Chairman of the Committee of Finance.

John Enoh was the All Progressives Congress Governorship Candidate of Cross River State in 2019. He was a member of the APC 2019 Bayelsa Governorship Campaign Council, Secretary of the APC National Reconciliation Committee, Member of the APC Edo State Governorship Campaign, Member of the APC National Registration Committee, Secretary of the Anambra State APC Gubernatorial Primary Election Committee, and Secretary of the South-South Subcommittee Contact and Strategy, National APC Contact and Strategy Committee. He also served as Assistant Director of the South-South Zonal Contact and Mobilization Committee, Presidential Campaign Council, State Director of the Contact and Mobilization Committee, Presidential Campaign Council, and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Cross River State Presidential Campaign in Calabar.

He is a Fellow of the Centre for Peace and Conflicts Studies (CEPACS) at the University of Ibadan. He was also listed as one of Nigeria’s 50 most Outstanding Legislative Icons (1999-2010) in a definitive book published by Parlia Consult, a Consortium of Legislative Historians.

Senator John Owan Enoh is a recipient of several awards and honors, including the 1988 Best Graduating Student Award and others.
