Leader of the Boko Haram (Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah we’ll-Jihād) jihadists group, Abubakar Shekau is reportedly on the run after fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province faction of the sect reportedly laid a siege on him and his fighters Sambisa Forest.
Reports have it that Shekau, who took over from the late Mohammed Yusuf is currently on the run.
The attack comes as a result of an organizational change in ISWAP which demands that all terrorist groups in the West Africa region must work together under the leadership of the newly appointed leader of ISWAP, Abu Musab Albarnahmy – a move Abubakar Shekau frowns against reportedly.
No less than 50 gun trucks and tons of ISWAP fighters stormed Sambisa Forest forcing JAS commanders as well Abubakar Shekau to surrender or face death.
Abubakar Shekau has been on US most wanted terrorist list since 2012 and he has a bounty of up to $7m placed on him.
