After many years of neglect, the Abuja National Stadium (MKO Abiola Stadium) is wearing a new look and will soon be ready for football and other sports activities in the months ahead.
The playing surface and other parts of the stadium was renovated by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote via the “Adopt a stadium project introduced by the Sports Minister, Mr. Sunday Dare.
The state of the Abuja National Stadium was an eyesore as it the grass on the main bowl turned to weeds and other parts dilapidated, before the rehabilitation of the edifice.

The rehabilitation of Federal Government-owned sports facilities is in fulfillment of Mr. Sunday Dare’s pledge of facilitating the development of grassroots sports in the country by making sports facilities readily available.
The ” Adopt a pitch” initiative has also led to the innovation of the Daura Mini stadium, Katsina State.
Reports suggest that the Chief Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, Oyo State will also be renovated through a private-public partnership.
