AFCON2021Q: Super Eagles to travel to Cotonou by sea!

The Super Eagles of Nigeria, ahead of their last game in the 2021 African Cup of Nations Qualifying series against the Squirrels of Benin, will travel to Cotonou via sea, The PUNCH reports.

The match is billed for the 27th of March at the Stade L’ amitie in the country’s capital.

According to Gernot Rohr, the Super Eagles will travel by sea because of the poor riad network Lagos and Cotonou.

We are playing in Lagos for the first time in a very long time. I am very excited for the players. 

So, we must have good security and escorts to move around. The traffic in Lagos is terrible.

For the first match in Benin (Republic), we are playing in the city of Cotonou. We will stay in Lagos ahead of the match.

But because the road is not good between Lagos and Cotonou, we will travel to the match on a boat because the crossing only lasts two hours, instead of many hours on poor roads.

The Super Eagles won the first leg 2-1 in Uyo back in November 2019 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium courtesy of goals from Victor Osimhen and Samuel Kalu.

Gernot Rohr’s men only need a point from their last two matches to secure qualification for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroun.

The team will report to camp on the 22nd of March according to report ahead of the two matches against Benin Republic and Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on the 30th of March.
