Victor Osimhen has been named as the best African male player for the year 2023 as he emerged winner of the CAF Player of the Year Award.
The Super Eagles striker becomes the first Nigerian player to win the award since Nwankwo Kanu did in 1999.
Osimhen beat the duo of Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi to win the prestigious accolade in Morocco on Monday night.
The 24-year-old had a fantastic 2022/2023 season with Napoli as he led the Italian club to its first Serie A title in 33 years.
He was named the league’s best striker as he scored 26 times en route to Napoli’s historic title.
Osimhen was also profilic for the Super Eagles as he scored 10 goals en route to Super Eagles qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire.
The striker also made history as he finished 8th in the 2023 Ballon D’or ranking becoming the highest ranked Nigerian in the history of the award.
