Former Super Eagles forward Jonathan Akpoborie believes that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen can win the African fooballer of the year accolade.
Osimhen has been in red hot form this season topping the Serie A golden boot charts with 14 goals and three assists in 16 matches and he is the current Serie A player of the month.
Akpoborie lauded the attention Osimhen’s goalscoring prowess has garnered.
“It’s a good one that a Nigerian player is doing the nation proud in the Serie A, Victor Osimhen’s goal scoring prowess has caught the attention of many football lovers across the world,” Akpoborie said.
“I’m delighted he’s also the topscorer in the Serie A and I am optimistic he can win the African footballer of the year award if he maintains his form till the end of the season.”
Osimhen has racked up 15 goals and three assists in 20 appearances across all club competitions this season.
Napoli currently top the Serie A table with a total of 53 points after 20 games.
