He worked as the creative director of Hermès women’s like between 1997 and 2003 before he was appointed as a Guest member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in 2010.

Martin Margiela’s deconstruction fashion style can be said to have been influenced by the Japanese avant-gardists, with Rei Kawakubo, influenced the global fashion scene with their eccentric and ground-breaking designs.

Margiela’s style can be argued to be a form of protest against the conventional luxurious fashion world with large and over-size garments such as long arms, and with linings, seams and hems on the outside.

Martin Margiela belongs to the class of celebrities who maintains a very low public profile. He is one who buried in his work and cares less about public life. In 2008, an article by the New York Times allowed many to see Margiela’s face for the first time.

The publication also confirmed rumours that he was about to leave the company. In October 2014, John Galliano became the new creative director of Maison Margiela after Raf Simmons and Haider Ackermann previously rejected the role.
