Barely days after Ndubuisi Egbo led his FC Tirana to win the Albania league, anothef Nigerian has flown the green and white flag high with Edward John Ikem Newton guiding Trabzonspor to the Turkish Cup title.
The 48-year old was appointed as assistant coach in February before he took over from Huseyin Cimsir during the second half of the season and they narrowly missed out on the Turkish Super Lig title to Istanbul Basaksehir.
Newton ensured Trabzonspor won their first title in a decade after beating Alanyaspor 2-0 in the Turkish Cup final at Ataturk Olympic Stadium with goals from Andulkadir Omur and Crystal Palace loanee Alexander Sorloth.
Anthony Nwaekeme, the only Nigerian player left in the team after the departure of Mikel and Onazi in January and March respectively, has now added the Turkish cup medal to his collection.
