OTD in 2014, Asisat Oshoala wins Golden Ball and Golden Boot as Nigeria lose to Germany in FIFA Women’s U-20 final (video)
On August, 24th 2014 Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala emerged winner of Golden ball and Golden Boot at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Oshoala had an incredible tournament and led Nigeria to the final where they will face Germany.
It was a rematch of the 2010 edition of the same tournament which Nigeria lost to Germany.
This time it was very well contested between the two sides.
There was no goal scored in the first half, second half, and the game went to extra time.
In the first half of extra time, Germany broke the deadlock when Lena Petermann converted in the 98th minute.
Oshoala would try to find an equalizer for Nigeria to force a penalty shootout, but Germany held on to be crowned champions in form of 15,822 fans in attendance at the Olympic Stadium, Montreal in Canada.
For her performance throughout the tournament, Oshoala was given the Golden Ball award as the best player.
Oshoala also received the Golden Boot award as the tournament top scorer with seven goals.
