Atiku urges Buhari to give Nigerians N10,000 per person to fight Coronavirus

Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has urged the Federal Government to help Nigerians with a financial incentive to help them fight the Coronavirus.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has urged Nigerians to stay at home in order to prevent spreading Coronavirus. Public workers from level 12 and below have been mandated to stay at home and some private establishments have also enforced the stay at home policy.

Atiku is however concerned for the average Nigerian who need to work to earn for himself and family.

In a statement on his medium account, Atiku whose son has been diagnosed to have Coronavirus has donated N50 million to help the fight for the less privileged.

He also encouraged the federal government to come up with a package for the general population.

In his statement Atiku said, “At an approximate 30 million households or thereabouts, the government should devise modalities to distribute N10,000 as a supplement for foodstuff to each household, among other palliative measures, with no one left behind.

“It is thus time for the National Assembly to reconvene in an emergency session, perhaps by teleconference (in line with the demands of social distancing), to legislate a Stimulus Package Act that will cater for all Nigerian citizens,” he said.

“I also urge these telecommunications firms to offer each of the 100 million mobile phone lines in Nigeria free credit of at least ₦1500 per mobile line, so that Nigerians who show symptoms, or those who just want information, can call the nearest available health facility, or even an ambulance service, as the case may be,” he said.
