Remo Stars Keep NPFL Title Chase In Sight With Victory Over Rivers United

With eight matches left to go in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Remo Stars have put themselves in a good spot to fight for the title after securing a win over Rivers United.

Remo Stars secured all three points as they came from behind to win 2-1 over the visitors on Monday afternoon in Ikenne.

Andy Okpe gave the away side the lead on the 19th minute via a penalty kick after Deputy Echeta was fouled in the box.

Remo Stars had a couple of half chances leading to the half hour mark but none was directed towards goal.

Sodiq Ismail came very close to equalising for the Sky Blue Stars just before half time but his effort was cleared off the line.

Bankole Kayode made a comfortable save from a free kick as Rivers United attempted to double their lead 10 minutes after restart.

However, it was the home side who restored parity after moments of continued pressure. Haruna Hadi taps home the ball from a brilliant pass from Togolese midfielder kwame Mawuena.

With 10 minutes left to play, Kwame Mawuena scored the winner on the 83rd minute from the near post from Adams Olamilekan’s corner kick.

The match ended 2-1 as Remo Stars move to secomd spot on the Nigeria Premier Football League log with 56 points – one behind league leaders Enugu Rangers.

Enugu Rangers, Remo Stars, and defending champions Enyimba are all in contention to win the 2023/2024 NPFL title with 8 matches left.
