Australia To Miss Three Key Players Ahead Of Clash Against Super Falcons

Australia will be without three key players ahead of the clash against the Super Falcons of Nigeria in their second group game at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Matildas who started the tournament without veteran and captain Sam Kerr will also be without forward Mary Fowler and defender Aivi Luik. Both players suffered concussions in separate incidents while training ahead of the match.

Tony Gustavsson’s side started their world cup campaign with a slim 1-nil win over the Republic of Ireland courtesy of Stephanie Catley’s 52nd-minute penalty kick.

Australia will meet the Super Falcons for the second time at the FIFA Women’s World having defeated the Nigerian ladies 2-nil at the 2015 edition of the competition.

The match-up between the two sides will take place at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Thursday.

The Super Falcons head into the game after extending their unbeaten record against Canada at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Randy Waldrum’s side played a goalless draw against the Canadians after Paris FC Chiamaka Nnadozie saved Christine Sinclair’s second-half penalty.
