Nigeria’s Women’s national basketball team DTigress have arrived in Kigali, Rwanda ahead of the 2023 Women’s Afrobasket championship.
The team arrived in Kigali on Tuesday night after departing the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
A total of 11 players, some of which were selected from the tryouts organized by the NBBF earlier in the month made the trip to Kigali.
DTigress will line up with more than a handful of new players in the team after some of the players who won the last three editions of the championship retired.
While others pulled out due to lack of professional conduct from the Federation and disagreements over payments after the 2021 Olympic Games.
The list of players who will represent Nigeria at the championship include:

- Adenike Olawuyi
- Lauren Ebo
- Blessing Ejiofor
- Sarah Ogoke
- Toyosi Abiola (Injured, but part of the trip)
- Okoro Ifunanya
- Adeyeye Adebola
- Tom Taiwo
- Elizabeth Balogun
- Sarah Ogoke
DTigress are grouped alongside Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Congo as they look to win the championship for the fourth consecutive time which will see them equal Senegal’s 41-year-old record.
The team will be coached by new coach Rena Wakama – a former player and assistant coach in the United States.
Otis Hughley, the American coach who led the team to three consecutive championship titles recently said that he didn’t resign his position as the head coach of the team. Instead, the NBBF moved on without him.
