Braeking! Tottenham appoint Ange Postecoglou as New Head Coach

English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Ange Postecoglou as the new manager of the club ahead of the 2023/2024 football season. Postecoglu’s appointment was announced via the club’s official website and various social media platforms on Tuesday morning.

Tottenham’s Chairman, Daniel Levy said the club is excited to have Postecoglou at the club. He added that he admires the positive energy of the Australian, his winning mentality, his taste for winning trophies, as well as his track record for developing young players: “Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our Club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead.”

Ante Postecloglou, before his appointment, coached at Celtic where he won the Scottish Cup and Scottish Premier League in the 2021/2022 season before winning the treble, Scottish League Cup, Scottish Cup and the Scottish Premier League in the just concluded 2022/2023 season.

He is a former Australian national team player. Ange was the manager at South Melbourne, where he won the National Soccer League twice and the Oceania Club Championship. He also coached the Australian national Under-17s and Under-20s before moving on to manage in the Australian A-League, where he won the Premiership in 2011 and the Championship Grand Finals in 2011 and 2012 with Brisbane Roar, becoming the first coach to win consecutive A-League Championship titles. From 2013 to 2017, he was the Australian senior national team manager, leading the side to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, winning the AFC Asian Cup in 2015, and qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He won the J1 League with Yokohama F. Marinos in 2019.

The former Celtic manager will look to turn the fortunes of the club around in the new season after they finished 8th in the just-concluded 2022-2023 season.

Ange Postecoglou was signed on a four-year deal starting from the first of July 2023 as he becomes the first Australian to manage in the Premier League.
