OTD in 2016, Brazil beat Germany 5-4 on penalties to win 1st men’s football Olympic Gold (video)

On August 20th, 2016 Brazil beat Germany 5-4 on penalties to win their 1st Gold medal in the men’s football event.

Brazil had won all the major tournaments in men’s football at senior and age-grade level except the Olympics.

This put more pressure on this Brazilian team playing at home especially after losing horribly to Germany as hosts of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Neymar opened the scoring for Brazil in the 27th minute which they maintained till the halftime break.

Max Meyer equalized for Germany in the 59th minute as the game proceeded to penalties.

Ginter, Gnabry, Brandt, Süle all scored but Petersen missed the fifth for Germany.

Renato Augusto, Marquinhos, Rafinha, Luan all scored with Neymar converting the final penalty to give Brazil the win in front of 63,707 fans in attendance at the Maracanã, Rio de Janeiro.
