Breaking! Osimhen Makes Final 10-man List Of Nominess For CAF POTY Award!

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has made the final 10-man list of nominees for the CAF 2023 Player of the Year Award.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) via its X page released the shortlit of 10 players for the prize on Friday.

Victor Osimhen’s nomination came off the back of his brilliant outing for club and country in the 2022/2023 football season.

Osimhen was shortlisted alongisde former winners: Mohammed Salah, Riyad Mahrez and Sadio Mane for the 2023 edition of the award.

Manchester United’s Moroccan midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat and three of his national team mates: Yacine Bounou who also had a brilliant season, Youssef El-Nesyri and Achraf Hakimi were among the shortlited players as well.

The 24-year-old striker led Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years last season. He also finished the season as top scorer on the league with 26 goals on 31 games.

The Super Eagles striker was also ruthless in front of goal for the national team as scored the most goals – 10 during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Former Super Eagles forward, Kanu Kwankwo is the last Nigerian recipient of the award. The former Inter Milan and Arsenal forward won the award in 1999. He had earlier won the award in 1996.

The final list of nominees which will consist of three to five players is expected to be released later in the month before the awards night.

The 2023 CAF Awards is scheduled to hold in the Moroccan city of Marakech on the 11th of December, 2023.
