Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of action for six weeks due to injury.
Osimhen sustained the injury in Nigeria’s 2-2 friendly match draw with Saudi Arabia on Friday, October 13 at the Estadio Muncipal de Portimao.
Salman Al-FAaraj and Mohammed Kanno scored for Saudi Arabia while an Abdulelah Al-Amri and a spendid shot Kelechi Iheanacho’ produced Nigeria’s two goals.
The 24 year old sustained an injury in the game and had to be replaced in the 59th minute by Nice’s striker Terem Moffi.
Following the injury he returned his club Napoli for assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the injury.
Napoli’s official website have stated that Osimhen sustained a medium grade lesion of the biceps femoris in his right thigh.
It is expected that he will miss Napoli’s matches against Union Berlin, AC Milan and Salernitana.
He is now also almost certain to miss Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Mozambique.
Osimhen has scored 20 goals in 27 games for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The 2023 Afcon will be held in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11 next year.
The 24 year old has also netted six times in eight Serie A matches in the 2023/24 season.
Napoli are fifth on the Serie A table with 14 points after eight games in the division.
