The last a football was kicked in the Spanish La Liga was on the 10th of March this month. A match between Eibar and Real Sociedad at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua which ended 1-2 in favor of the away side with Mikel Oyazarbel and Willian Jose getting the goals for the away side while Charles a 90th-minute consolation for the home side via the spot-kick.

However, things are about to go from worse to irredeemably worse after a two weeks league suspension was announced after the last match. The La Liga authorities and Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have decided that all Professional Football in the country has been postponed until further notice until the Spanish Government gives them further directives.

According to a joint statement by both football bodies:

“The Monitoring Commission established by the current RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement agrees to the suspension of professional football competitions until the authorities of the Government of Spain and the General Administration of the State consider that they can be resumed without creating any health risk.

“Both the RFEF and LaLiga wish to express our greatest public gratitude to all those who are dedicating their best efforts to provide essential services to the Spanish people and also share our condolences for all the deceased and a warm embrace from the world of football to the many families that are losing loved ones.”

So far, there have been over 2,000 deaths as a result of Coronavirus and the country goes on a gradual shutdown.
