Breaking! Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface Announces Retirement

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has announced his retirement from the national team after the one-all draw against Russia on Friday night.

Boniface started the match and played until he he was substitute for Genk striker Tolu Arokodare who grabbed the equalizer.

The Bayer Leverkusen striker was looking to get his first goal in the colors of the Super Eagles on his thirteenth appearance.

Unfortunately, his header towards goal from Bright-Osayi Samuel’s cross went straight at the goalkeeper.

A few minutes after the match, Boniface took to his Instagram page to announce his retirement from the national team.

“Proud to play for my country and a dream for me also, really enjoyed every moment the good and the bad thanks a lot, thank you all, I done hang boot 😥”

Boniface’s Instagram post comes as a surprise. The Nigeria Football Federation are yet to respond to the development as of the time of this report.

However, given the player’s social media antecedent , a section of fans and media believe his post should be taken with a pinch of salt until he gives further clarification.

Meanwhile the striker has been linked with a move away from Bayer Leverkusen with former Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag set to oversee a couple of departures this summer.
