The Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics after dumping out Banyana Banyana in the final round of qualification.
Coach Randy Waldrum ended Super Falcons 16 years wait with a 1 nil aggregate win over South Africa after the second leg ended in a goalless draw in Pretoria.
The blockbuster encounter was keenly contested from the blast of the first whistle with both sides attempt to dominate the match.
Uchenna Kanu had a couple of chances to put the Nigeria ahead in the match but the winger lacked composure in front goal.
Chiamaka Nnadozie was the highlight of the second half as the Paris FC goalkeeper made a number of saves to keep the team’s dream alive.
The dream came to reality at the blast of the final whistle as the match ended in a stalemate which confirmed Super Falcons place at the Summer Olympics for the first time since 2008.
The goalless draw tonight extends Nigeria’s record as they remain unbeaten on South Africa’s home soil.
The Super Falcons will now now take on World champions, Spain in Group C alongside 2011 champions Japan and Brazil.
