Veteran Nigerian comic actor, Babatunde Omidina who is popularly known as Baba Suwe has been confirmed dead. The news of Baba Suwe’s death was confirmed by Bolaji Amusan aka Mr Latin the president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Producers Association of Nigeria.
Mr. Latin who spoke with PUNCH Mobile said, “It has been confirmed that Baba Suwe is dead. I just got off the phone with his son who confirmed that the actor is dead. I don’t have many details about his death.”
Omidina began acting in 1971, but shot to fame after appearing in Obalende’s film Omolasan. He rose to prominence after appearing in Olaiya Igwe’s 1997 film Iru Esin.
He starred in and produced a number of Nigerian films, including Baba Jaiye Jaiye, a film starring Funke Akindele and Femi Adebayo, the son of famous actor Adebayo Salami.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency charged him for cocaine trafficking in 2011, but the Lagos High Court of Law ruled that the accusation was false and defamatory. Bamidele Aturu, a Nigerian lawyer and human rights campaigner, was his lawyer.
