Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface will not join Serie A side AC Milan despite an agreement between the club and Bayer Leverkusen for a one-year loan.
According to reports in Italy, the deal failed to materialize due to doctors’ opinion after his medical examination over the weekend.
AC Milan reportedly carried out further medical tests on Victor Boniface’s knee, given his recent history of two cruciate ligament injuries.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the 24-year-old striker returned to Leverkusen after spending 48 hours in Milan without headway on the transfer situation.
AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen had initially settled on a €5 million loan fee and an option to sign Boniface permanently for €24 million at the end of the season.
Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, says if Victor Boniface returns to Bayer Leverkusen, the AC Milan deal will be over, and there is no chance of renegotiating.
He, however, revealed that the physical condition of Boniface has improved, unlike before.
“If Boniface comes back to Leverkusen, the AC Milan deal will be over. That’s no big secret. Renegotiating the deal? I don’t think that will happen”, he told BILD.
“His physical situation has improved compared to the beginning”.
The failed move to Milan comes months after Boniface’s proposed transfer to Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League failed to materialize.
