Brooklyn Nets star Spencer Dinwiddie dumps USA, to play for Nigeria at 2021 Olympics
Spencer Dinwiddie of the Brooklyn Nets has revealed that he will dump the United States of America (USA) to compete for Nigeria at the basketball event of the 2021 Olympic Games scheduled for Tokyo, Japan.
Dinwiddie was not included in Gregg Popovich’s 44 man preliminary team for the Olympic Games and has now decided to pledge his international allegiance to Nigeria.
Reporter Shams Charania of The Athletic put out a statement on Twitter that said, “Sources: Nets‘ Spencer Dinwiddie is acquiring a Nigerian passport to play for the Nigeria national team. Dinwiddie didn’t receive Team USA Olympic invite; now joins Nigeria roster under Mike Bown that includes Al-Farouq Aminu, Josh Okogie, Chimezie Metu, Ekpe Udoh.”
Dinwiddie then replied with his official Twitter account saying, “Well now y’all know lol.”
Nigeria’s men basketball team called the D’tigers qualified for the Olympic Games picking a ticket as the best African team at the 2019 FIBA Men’s World Cup held in China.
Dinwiddie joins the team that recently appointed Mike Brown an assistant coach at NBA side Golden State Warriors as their head coach.
