Champions lose 4-0 to Man City: Can this Liverpool team repeat next season?
Newly crowned Premier League champions Liverpool suffered a 4-0 loss away to the previous title holders Manchester City in a matchday 32 encounter played at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday, July 2nd.
Kevin DeBruyne scored a penalty to give Manchester City the lead, Raheem Sterling made it two and Phil Foden added a third before the halftime break.
There was an improvement from Liverpool in the second half by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain while VAR ruled out Riyad Mahrez strike.
This was Liverpool’s first game after it was confirmed they are champions. After getting a guard of honour from Manchester City, Liverpool failed to play like champions.
However, the Reds have no away goals in their last five games. Their 4-0 defeat to Manchester City is the joint-heaviest defeat by a team already crowned Premier League champions in a season.
The problem for Liverpool’s did are not new as they began to crumble before the league was suspended due to Coronavirus. The vulnerabilities of the team is showing and their depth is questionable which brings the question if they can repeat their heroics next season.
