A list of Credit Cards Costco accepts

Shopping has become easy especially with the swift payment systems either offline or online. Gone are the days where you have to use fiat or physical money in purchasing items. Card payments, either credit or debit is the way to go if you don’t want to use paper money. 

There are various card payment services in the world like VISA, Mastercard, Verve, American Express among others. 

In this piece, we shall discuss on the credit cards Costco accepts and some of the benefits attached to each card.

How Credit Cards works

So the question is what are the credit cards Costco accepts and what are the advantages of using them?

For Costco, America’s membership-only multi-billion dollar retail company with over 800 stores worldwide as of 2019, only the branded Visa Costco credit card and Visa issued credit cards are accepted for payments although they are some exceptions which we will discuss later on.

One can also use the Visa Costco credit card by Citi based on their partnership deal which started in 2016. 

A list of Credit Cards Costco accepts include; 

  1. Penfed Credit Card.

This card comes with a lot of benefits. You will get a 1.5% cashback for all purchases made with the card, 2% cashback on purchases made by Penfed honour advantage members and you won’t pay any annual fees. Also, you will get a $100 Bonus Offer Statement credit when you spend $1500 in the first 90 days. 

  1. Chase Freedom Unlimited

The Chase Freedom Unlimited card is another Crefit Card Costco accepts. With the Freedom Unlimited card, you stand a chance to earn $200 cash back after you must have spent $500 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening the account.

Although, this product is only available to those who don’t have the card or haven’t received any new cardmember bonus on it in the past 24 months. 

It comes with 5% cash back on travel purchases through chase unlimited rewards, 3% cashback on drugstore, 3% cashback on dining at restaurants which include, take out and delivery services and 1.5% on all items purchased. 

It has 0% intro APR for 15 months from account opening on purchases but after that, 14.99% – 23.74% variable APR will be applicable. 

There is no annual fee and all cash backs do not expire as long as you have an active account.

  1. Wells Fargo Cash Wise Visa Card.

This another fantastic credit card Costco accepts. By using this card, you will get unlimited 1.5% cashback on all purchases, and you will also get to enjoy a 0% APR up to the first 15 months. 

You will earn $150 after spending at least $500 in the first three months. 

Once you have up to $25 in cashback rewards, you can either redeem it for paper checks, Wells Fargo bank account deposits or statement credits. Better still, you can redeem it for ATM withdrawals at Wells Fargo ATMs in $20 increments.

There is no annual fee, foreign transaction fee is 3% only.

  1. Chase Sapphire Preferred Card

In as much as it is mostly used by travellers because of its travel rewards, it is one of the few credit cards Costco accepts and shoppers use it a lot. 

It does not have a long 0% APR period but it comes it a staggering opening bonus. You can earn up to 80,000 Ultimate Reward points after spending at least $4000 in purchases in the first three months. 

For every $1 spent on travel or at the restaurant, you will earn 2 points and 1 point per $1 for other eligible purchases you make.

There are no charges for foreign transaction but an annual fee of $95. 

  1. Chase Sapphire Reserve Card.

Up to 60,000 bonus points up for grabs after spending $4000 on purchases in the first three months of opening your account. Your bonus point will be worth $900 towards travel if you choose to redeem your reward through the Chase Ultimate Rewards. 

Other features of this credit card include; 

  • $300 Yearly Travel Credit as reimbursement for every travel purchases charged to your account on each account anniversary year.
  • Multiple bonus points on travel after earning your $300 travel credit.
  • Your credit points are worth 50% more with Pay Yourself Back feature if you redeem them for statement credits against existing purchases in either select or rotating categories.
  1. Costco Anywhere Visa Business Card by Citi

This card is rated 4.7/5.0 in terms of ratings which signals to you that it is a highly rated credit card Costco accepts from customers.

For the first $7000 worth of gas purchased per year in any eligible gas outlet worldwide or at Costco gas stations, you get a 4% cashback then 1% cashback the subsequent years. 

You will also earn 3% cash back on eligible restaurant and travel purchases, 2 % cashback on all other forms of purchases from Costco stores and Costco.com then 1% on other purchases. 

The card has no annual fee but you need to be a member of Costco to enjoy this benefit. 

  1. Fidelity Rewards Visa Signature Credit Card

One of the reasons why this credit card is unique in the fact that you can link it to your digital wallet. You also enjoy zero annual fee and additional savings through its 2% cash back rewards on all purchases.

Once your bonus points get to 5,000 which is equivalent to $50, you can transfer it to a specified account. 

Foreign transaction fee on Fidelity Rewards Visa Signature Credit card is 3%. If you like to travel especially out of the US, you can significantly increase savings but that would depend on how much you spend. 

In as much as only Visa cards or Visa-branded Costco, Credit cards are accepted for shopping at Costco stores, it doesn’t mean other credit cards or debit cards cannot be used on Costco. 

You can use the Mastercard or Discover cards on Costco.com or the Costco App for payments.

Costco’s switch from AmEx issued cards to Visa cards in 2016 came as a surprise to many shoppers who have been used to the former since 1999. The retail company enjoyed a good relationship with the Amex cards for a while before it moved on to Visa which has a larger network of users than AmEx cards and Discover cards.
