OTD in 2018: Cristiano Ronaldo scores hat-trick as Portugal and Spain play 3-3 draw in World Cup opener (video)
On June 15th, 2018 Cristiano Ronaldo provided one of the best performances in World Cup history as neighbors Portugal and Spain played out a 3-3 draw in their group B opener.
Ronaldo will score a hat-trick as both sides changed leads and provided an exhilarating draw.
Ronaldo opened the floodgates when he converted a penalty in the 4th minute after he was brought down by Nacho Fernandez.
Diego Costa equalized for Spain in the 24th minute but Ronaldo will give Portugal a lead going into the halftime break thanks to a blunder by David De Gea.
Costa responded for Spain with his second of the game in the 55th minute.
Spain went ahead in the 58th minute thanks to a sweet volley from Nacho who made amends for giving away the penalty which led to Portugal’s first goal.
Ronaldo will have the final say in front of 43,866 fans in attendance at the Fisht Olympic Stadium, Sochi, as his delicious free kick in the 88th minute tied the game up as both sides shared points.
