Nigeria’s men’s senior basketball team, D’Tigers have been awarded a wild card to participate at the FIBA Afrocan despite failing to qualify for the tournament via the qualifiers in Cote D’Ivoire.
D’Tigers lost their opening match of the qualifiers to Guinea 65-62 before defeating Benin Republic 78-51 in their second game.
The team failed to replicate their performance in the last game against host Cote D’Ivoire as they lost 74-65.
However, coach Ogoh Odaudu men have now been granted a wild card by FIBA to participate in the tournament.
The tournament is scheduled to hold in Angola from July 8th to 16th. D’Tigers are grouped alongside host, Angola and Mali in group B of the competition.
The Afrocan is FIBA’s new competition for African national teams.
