The male senior basketball .of Nigeria, D’Tigers have emerged as the first team to qualify for the 2021 edition of the Afrobasket championship place later this year at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda.
D’Tigers booked their ticket after completing the double over South Sudan as they edged the central African side 75-70 in a very pulsating match.
It was a close encounter between the two sides from the onset even though Mfon Udoka’s team led by 9 points going into half time.
However, the Sudanese came out strong in the final two quarters and reduced the deficit to one point with less than five minutes to the end of the game.
Nuni Omot scored 21 points and 4 rebounds for the South Sudanese side while Ike Ireogbu had the highest for D’Tigers with 16 points and 7 rebounds.
The team will take on Rwanda tomorrow at 2 p.m as they look to continue their unbeaten run in the qualifying series.
