DTigress To Battle USA, Senegal, Belgium For Paris Olympics Ticket

Nigeria senior women’s basketball team, DTigress have been drawn alongside, World champions USA, Belgium and Senegal ahead of the FIBA Paris 2024 Olympics qualfying touranment.

The draw was conducted in Hungary on Thurday as 16 teams contend for 10 available tickets for the women’s basketball event at next year’s Paris Summer Olympics.

The top three teams will qualify for the basketba event at next year’s olympics. Nigeria, not too long ago won the Africa women’s championshop in Rwanda for the fourth consecutive time as they equal Senegal’s age long record.

Despite going into the tournament in Kigali with little or no preparation, Coach Rena Wakama’s ladies defeated Senegal 84-74 in an epic final to retain their title.

The DTigress are not unfamilar with their opponents going into the qualifying series. The team played and lost to Belgium twice (60-67, 79-47) in an invitational tournament in 2021. The ladies also lost to USA (76-71) during the invitational tournament.

Nigeria last played USA at the Tokyo Olympics and it ended in another loss for the ladies as the match ended 82-71. The DTigress are winless against the World champions in five meetings.

However, DTigress are undefeated against Senegal in the last six meetings which dates back to 2015.

The African champions will play in Belgium against USA, Belgium and Senegal between the 8th and 11th of February, 2024.

The top three teams will play at the basketball event at next year’s Summer Olympics on Paris.
