Edo Queens have booked their spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League semi-finals after a dramatic comeback win over defending champions Mamelodi Sundows.
The Nigerian champions were almost sent packing by the South African side but two goals in added time turned the fortunes of Edo Queens around.
Melinda Kgadiete gave the Mamelodi Sundows the lead after 25 minutes into the first half with a beautiful header from Karabo Dhlamini’s cross.
Edo Queens missed several opportunities to draw level in the match but failed to bury any of the chances.
The Nigerian champions also missed a second half penalty to restore parity as the frustration increased going into the last quarter of the game.
While the South Africans were playing for time, Edo Queena kept knocking amd eventually the break through came in the first minute of addded time.
Emem Peace scored from a goal-mouth scramble to bring Edo Queens back into the match.
Edo Queens only needed a draw to secure qualification for the semi-finals but 17-year-old Mary Mamudu went ahead to get a winner on the last minute of added time to complete the dramatic comeback.
Edo Queens becomes the first Nigerian side to qualify for the knockout stage of the competition.
The Nigerian champions, having topped Group B with 7 points, will now take on TP Mazembe in the semi-finals on Tuesday.
