Enyimba End CAF Confederation Cup Campaign With Loss To Zamalek

Enyimba’s run in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup has come to an end.

The Aba Elephants lost their final group match to Zamalek on Sunday evening.

Zamalek came into the match as the overwhelming favorite to win and lived up to the expectation.

The Egyptian side took the lead in the 29th minute courtesy of Mostafa Shalaby’s header.

Seifeddine Jaziri doubled the lead for Zamalek four minutes into the second half from catastrophic error via from Enyimba’s goalkeeper.

However, in-form forward Ifeanyi Ihemekwele pulled one back just before the hour mark as Enyimba halved the deficit.

Seifeddine Jaziri scored his second goal of the match as Zamalek ended the match with a comfortable 3-1 win.

The result ended Enyimba’s campaign in the competition as they crashed out with five points from six matches.

Enyimba’s poor run on the continent persists as the two-time CAF Champions League winners have failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals of the competition in their last two attempts.

The Aba Elephants last played in the last four of the competition in 2018 where they lost 3-1 on aggregate to eventual winners Raja Casablanca.
