Super Eagles Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye Under Investigation Over Betting Scandal

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is being investigated for his alleged involvement in a betting scandal.

Okoye is being investigated by the Udine Public Prosecutor Office for betting on himself to get a yellow card in a Serie A match against Lazio.

According to popular Italian media outlet, a popular betting agency Sisal reported an usual betting pattern from its bettors.

The betting algorithm showed that a good number of bettors placed a bet on the likelihood of Maduka Okoye getting a yellow card in a Serie A between Udinese and Lazio in March 2024.

Maduka Okoye got booked in the match on the 64th minute for time wasting.

The newspaper also explains that Diego Giordano, a 40-year-old restaurant owner, the Biffi pizzeria in Udine is also under investigation.

It alleged that a verbal agreement was made at his restaurant and the bet was later carried out at a Sisal betting outlet in Udine.

Maduka Okoye’s legal counsel has however denied the involvement of its client in the scandal. They also claim that the allegation lack sufficient substance.

If found guilty, Maduka Okoye faces a 4-year ban from all football-related activities and could also be prosecuted in court.

Maduka Okoye is currently recovering from injury after undergoing a wrist surgery in December.
