Ex-Golden Eaglet wonderkid Amoo moves to Copenhagen in Denmark

Hammarby announce the biggest deal in their club’s history as Akinkunmi Amoo moves to Copenhagen FC in Denmark and will challenge for the league title and play in Europe next season.

Akinkunmi Amoo leaves Hammarby to continue his career at FC Copenhagen. The agreement the clubs reached for the transfer means that Hammarby makes the largest sale so far in the club’s history.
It has been fantastic to work with such a talented player as “Akin”, says Jesper Jansson.

After a year and a half in Hammarby, Akinkunmi Amoo is moving on. The 19-year-old has undergone a medical examination and signed his personal agreement with FCK.

This sale may come a little earlier than what we saw in front of us in our original plan, but we are satisfied with the deal. It is Hammarby’s biggest transfer ever, which opens up opportunities and makes us even stronger. We wish Amoo great luck, says CEO Richard von Yxkull.

Hammarby’s sports director Jesper Jansson and chief scout Mikael Hjelmberg came in contact with Akinkunmi Amoo when he was 16, and then started building the relationship between him and Hammarby. As an 18-year-old, he then moved to Stockholm, and after a somewhat tentative first time in Bajen, it came loose during last year’s season.

It has been fantastic to work with such a talented player as “Akin”, and see him grow here with us. Of course we would have liked to see him with us for another season, but this was something “Akin” really wanted, and the offer from FCK is so good that it gives us opportunities to reinvest in our squad in a way that will raise the quality further a few steps. We are proud of what we and “Akin” have achieved together and I am convinced that we will see him in the really big contexts within a couple of years, says Jesper Jansson.

Akinkunmi Amoo made his Allsvenskan debut for Hammarby in the home meeting with Helsingborg on 14 September 2020. Later that year, he scored his first two competition goals in the cup meeting with FC Gute. In the Swedish Cup, there were a total of four goals in five matches, and in the Allsvenskan he played a total of 35 Allsvenskan matches and accounted for nine goals and six assists.
