The Federal Government of Nigeria has stated that the ban on microblogging app, Twitter in the country will soon be lifted.
While speaking to the media after Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting, Minister for Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed said the ban will be lifted very soon after the management of the app agreed to register Twitter as a business in Nigeria.
The Minister also revealed that there have been talks between the Federal Government and the company and progress has been made in their discussions.
The microblogging application which is mostly used by young Nigerians was banned on the 4th of June after users reported President Buhari’s tweet that seemingly incited genocide against a particular ethnic group in the country
It has been two months and seven days as of today since the ban of the app. Since then, government-owned Twitter pages and government officials haven’t posted a tweet on the application.
However, Nigerians have been using the application via alternative sources.
