Federal Government to shut down Third Mainland Bridge from July 24th for repair works!

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr. Olukayode Popoola had indicated that that popular Third Mainland Bridge may be closed to commuters for repair works starting from the 24th of July.

Mr Olukayode said consultations are still on-going as regards the modalities which involves traffic management and alternative routes during the period of repair. And according to reports, the shutdown  may last up to six months.

In his words;

“We want to do maintenance work on Third Mainland Bridge very soon.

“We may close it from 24th of July.

“We are still working out the modalities and when we perfect the traffic management plan, we will move to site.

“Everything being expected for the repairs of the bridge arrived the country that is why we want to start the repairs now,’’

The Third Mainland Bridge is 11.8km long, it is one of three bridges that connects the Mainland to the Island aside from the Eko and Carter Bridges.

The Construction of  the bridge began during the President Shehu Shagari government but was commissioned in 1990 by then Military President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.
