
Nigeria’s under-17 women’s team defeated the Bantwana of South Africa in the first leg of the 2025 Women’s Under-17 World Cup.
The Flamingos recorded a convincing 3-1 victory over the host at the Lucas “Masterpieces” Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday afternoon.
Shakirat Moshood gave the Flamingos the lead in the 20th minute as moments of sustained pressure on the host.
Harmony Chidi doubled the lead from the penalty spot before the halftime break to give the Flamingos a comfortable lead.
However, Bantwana’s captain Malebana halved tge deficit from the penalty spot five minutes into the second half.
Chidi Harmony dashed Bantwana’s hope of staging a comeback as she scored in the 68th minute to increase the lead.
It match ended 3-1 in favor of the Flamingos as they look to consolidate their win in the return fixture next week.
The winner, on aggregate, will take on Botswana or Algeria in the final round of qualification for the World Cup.
