Flamingos Thrash Algeria To Claim Prime Position For World Cup Qualification

Nigeria women’s football cadet team, the Flamingos are close to qualifying for the Women’s Under-17 World Cup after an impressive first leg win over Algeria.

The tie took place at the Remo Stars football club home turf in Ikenne on Saturday evening and the Nigerian ladies treated fans to a good display.

Queen Joseph scored the opener three minutes after kickoff to put the visitors in a difficult position already.

While the Algerian ladies tried to settle into the game Zinab Oluwaseun doubled Flamingos lead 10 minutes after the first goal.

Queen Joseph scored her second and increased the lead three minutes later as the Nigerian ladies took their visitors apart.

The last goal of the match didn’t come until the 90th minute as substitute Aishat Animashaun scored a few minutes after introduction.

With the comprehensive win, the Flamingos are in prime position to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be hosted in Morocco later in the year.

Meanwhile, the NFF announced a N6 million reward for the players and officials.

According to the president of the federation, Musa Gusua, N2 million naira is from the football body while N4 million is a gift form Honourable Kunle Soname, the owner of Remo Stars football club.

The second leg will is billed for Friday, 25 April in Blida.
