OTD in 2000, France beat Italy 2-1 in extra time to win UEFA European Championship (video)
On July, 2nd 2000 France beat Italy 2-1 in extra-time to win the UEFA European Championship.
Two years after they beat Brazil to win the 1998 FIFA World Cup on home soil, France were favourites to win Euro 2000.
The final was played in front of 48,200 fans in attendance at the De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The first half was goalless as both Italy and France defended well.
Italy broke the deadlock n the 55th minute when Marco Delvecchio tapped home from close range.
Italy were on the brink of victory but a long ball forward found Sylvain Wiltord who buried it in the 93rd minute.
The game went to extra-time it was David Trezeguet who would score the Golden goal in the 103rd minute.
