History Makers! Morocco Ends Portugal’s World Cup Dream, Become First African Team In World Cup Semis

The Atlas Lions of Morocco have become the first African team to reach the semis of the FIFA World Cup after defeating Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in the quarter final.

Morocco qualified for the semis after defeating Portugal 1-0 on December 10 at the Al Thumama Stadium.

Youssef En-Nesyri scored the lone goal of the encounter in the 42nd minute and Joao Felix came close to equalising for the Selecao.

Ronaldo was brought on from the bench in the encounter but couldn’t score though he fired a shot at the Moroccan goalkeeper.

Ronaldo scored one goal in five games at Qatar 2022 and is the only player to score at five World Cups.

Morocco will play the winner of the quarter final match between England and France in the semi final.

The Atlas Lions have obliterated their previous FIFA World Cup record which was a 1-0 round of 16 defeat to West Germany at Mexico ’86.
