Jordan Attah Kadiri joins Norway’s Stromsgodset on one-year loan

Power-playing Nigerian forward John Attah Kadiri has completed a one-season loan move to Norwegian first division side Stromsgodset IF from Belgium Division B side SK Lommel.

The 21-year old who had joined Lommel at the commencement of last season was a part of the Belgian side’s ultimately unsuccessful push for promotion to the top-flight.

In an exclusive interview with Sporting Life from his new base in Norway, Kadiri said the move was a golden chance to play top-flight football with a big team with the attendant opportunities that it brings.

“Even though I had a nice time at SK(Lomme) and I was ready to help them push for promotion again this season but when Stromsgodset came calling, it was a chance I couldn’t pass up because it represent an upward movement in my career. This is a bigger club with more opportunities for me,” he began.

Kadiri, previously on the books of Sweden’s Ostersund FK in his first season in Europe, has been compared to former Nigerian striker Daniel Amokachi because of the similarities in their style of play. In his time in Belgium, Kadiri was nicknamed “Da Bull”, the moniker of Amokachi when he played and shone in the colours of Club Brugge.

He reminisced about his time in Lommel and said he would miss the club, the players and the fans who were really supportive during his time there.

Kadiri said: “Coming here is good for me and my family and though it is sad to leave Lommel but that is the life of a footballer. You’re here today and gone tomorrow. You never can say never anyway. I will be seeing them around and surely make the club proud that I once played for them.”

On what the future holds for him, the former Nasarawa United star is confident that he would make a success of the loan move.

“By God’s grace I will give it my best shot and I know I will succeed here but I’m not going to look too far into the future. Let’s take it one step at a time,” he concluded.

Stromsgodset IF, founded 114 years ago, are currently 9th on the league table. They are two-time league champions and have won the Norwegian Cup five times.
