The Nigerian Football Federation has announced the death of former Super Eagles defender, Yisa Shofoluwe via its verified Twitter page a few moments ago.
The tweet reads!
We are devastated to hear of the passing away of former Green Eagles Defender Yisa Sofoluwe after a brief illness on Tuesday. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the football community in Nigeria. May his soul Rest In Peace.
Reports have it that Yisa Shofoluwe has been battling mild cerebral atrophy at the Prince and Life Medical Hospital, Ikorodu, Lagos before he was moved to the Lagos State Teaching Hospital after his health condition worsened.
Until his death, the “Dean of Defense” as he was fondly called during his active days for the Super Eagles was 53 years old.
He died on Tuesday night and his death was confirmed by his friend, Taiwo Oloyede, a former player as well.

Yisa Shofoluwe had 40 appearances for the Super Eagles with a single goal. He was part of the team played at the 1984 and 1998 Africa Cup. of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire and Morocco.
His death comes a few weeks after the passing away of another ex-player, Joe Erico.
