Few hours after the “Self-Certification forms” post went viral on social media, the Nigerian Government via its verified Twitter handle has now offered an apology.

The Nigerian Government’s official Twitter handle initially tweeted that the Self-Certification forms are required to provide the various financial institutions with “due diligence procedure in line with the requirements of Income Tax (Common Reporting Standard) Regulations 2019.”

The tweets reignited aggressions on social media yesterday against the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government as many labelled it as insensitive, inconsiderate and exploitative.

However, the Federal Government has now now acknowledged that tweets were misleading and it’s contents does not apply to everybody.

The Federal In-land Revenue Service has now been ordered to put out a proper notice.
