FC Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has lashed out at Barcelona’s board as well as the team for poor form and inconsistency which largely defined the Catalan giant’s season in the league.
Speaking after Barcelona’s shocking 2-1 loss to Osasuna at the Camp Nou despite with a man advantage, Messi believes that the board hasn’t done enough to improve the team and the team is not playing with enough intensity.
“We didn’t expect to finish in this way, but it sums up the year for us.
“We are a weak team who can be beaten with enough intensity and enthusiasm.
“We have lost a lot of points which we shouldn’t have done. We have been very inconsistent.
“We need to be self-critical, starting with the players, but also across the entire club. We are Barcelona, and we are obliged to win every game.”
Barcelona’s loss to Osasuna ended the team’s 30 games unbeaten league run and on the same night their eternal rival, Real Madrid lifted their 34th title after defeating Villarreal 2-1.
Barcelona’s last hope of winning a trophy this season lies in the Uefa Champions League where they face Napoli on the 8th of August for the return leg after the first leg ended 1-1.
