Liverpool collect Premier League trophy after 5-3 classic against Chelsea (video)
Liverpool finally lifted the Premier League trophy after a 5-3 win against Chelsea in a matchday 37 encounter played at Anfield on Wednesday, July 22nd.
Chelsea beat Manchester City shortly after the restart to crown Liverpool Premier League champions for the first time in 30 years.
The Reds chose the game against Chelsea which was their last home game of the season to lift the trophy and it did not disappoint.
Liverpool started brightly and went ahead in the 23rd minute through a ferocious shot by Naby Keita. A well-taken free-kick by Trent Alexander-Arnold made it two for Liverpool in the 38th minute.
Mohamed Salah provided the third for Georginio Wijnaldum in the 43rd minute as Liverpool turned on the style. Olivier Giroud pulled one back for Chelsea n the 45th minute as they went to the break 3-1 behind.
In the 55th minute, Roberto Firmino got on the scoresheet for Liverpool’s fourth after been set up by Alexander-Arnold. The game took an unexpected turn when Willian was substituted for Christian Pulisic.
The American forward provided a spark for Chelsea as he set up Tammy Abraham to score their second in the 61st minute. Pulisic scored for Chelsea in the 73rd minute to reduce the deficit to just one goal.
Liverpool would show they are champions when Robertson provided the fifth for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Liverpool would hold on to win a classic encounter and ensure they end the season unbeaten at home.
After the game, Liverpool players received their medals and were officially crowned champions.
