Renowned Nigerian reggae artist Majekodunmi Fasheke, better known as Majek Fashek, who passed on to the great beyond on Monday, June 1 2020 was known for his craft but many do not know the part he played in Nigeria’s first appearance at the World Cup in 1994.
Already a global superstar, he had taken America by storm and was an household name in God’s own country.
So, fittingly, Majek Fashek was engaged to entertain the Nigerian Community as part of the Super Eagles debut World Cup appearance
According to Mumini Alao, who covered the Nigerian national team before and during the World Cup, Majek put up an amazing performance which left the crowd asking for more.
Alao, who’s President of Naijasuperfans, said: “He was simply phenomenal. We had a rollicking time in America with him that day. His “Holy Spirit” is one of my favourite tracks by any musician ever. May his soul rest in peace.”
The late Majek Fashek was born in March, 1963 and best known for the 1988 album Prisoner of Conscience, which included the multiple award-winning single “Send Down the Rain”.
Also known as The Rainmaker, he worked with various artists worldwide including Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, and Beyoncé.
