Man City 2 Aston Villa 1: Is Carabao Cup triumph a new beginning for Pep Guardiola?
Manchester City beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Sunday, March 1st to win the 2020 Carabao Cup.
City had a lightning fast start with goals from Sergio Aguero scoring from a Phil Foden assist in the 20th minute and Rodri converting a pass by Gundogan in the 30th minute.
Villa pulled one back through Mbwana Samata in the 41st minute to reduce the deficit going to the halftime break.
The second half was tense but City held on for the win which was their third straight Carabao Cup triumph and their fifth in the last seven seasons.
Pep Guardiola’s men are 22 points behind Liverpool which means their aspirations to retain the Premier League is over.
However over the last two seasons, City have used the Carabao Cup as a spring board to further success. Can this be a new beginning for Pep Guardiola’s men as they are still favourites for the Champions League and FA Cup?
