Manchester United’s forward, Marcus Rashford, is set to receive a Honourary Doctorate Degree from the University of Manchester from his immense contribution to the campaign against child poverty as well as his achievements as a footballer.

The campaign saw wrote an open letter to Members of United Kingdom’s Parliament urging them to do more as regards the homeless, child poverty among other societal issues in the country.

The 22 year old is set to be the youngest recipient of the honour and he follows the footsteps of the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson who have also being honoured with the degree.

Reacting to the development, Marcus Rashford said;

It’s a proud day for myself and my family. When you look at the great names that have been awarded this doctorate in the past, it’s humbling.


β€œWe still have a long way to go in the fight to combat child poverty in this country but receiving recognition from your city means we are heading in the right direction and that means a lot. Thank you to The University of Manchester.”

  • Began a charity to feed 2.8m kids
  • Campaigned to help the homeless
  • Learned sign language to help judge a competition at a deaf school

The University of Manchester Vice President and Vice Chancellor said;

β€œMarcus is an extraordinary young man with an extraordinary talent and drive that stretches well beyond the football field. His work for charity and his high-profile campaign will not only help countless young people across our own city, but across the entire country.

Manchester United’s coach also said;
