Manchester United’s forward, Marcus Rashford, is set to receive a Honourary Doctorate Degree from the University of Manchester from his immense contribution to the campaign against child poverty as well as his achievements as a footballer.
The campaign saw wrote an open letter to Members of United Kingdom’s Parliament urging them to do more as regards the homeless, child poverty among other societal issues in the country.

The 22 year old is set to be the youngest recipient of the honour and he follows the footsteps of the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson who have also being honoured with the degree.
Reacting to the development, Marcus Rashford said;
“Itβs a proud day for myself and my family. When you look at the great names that have been awarded this doctorate in the past, itβs humbling.
βWe still have a long way to go in the fight to combat child poverty in this country but receiving recognition from your city means we are heading in the right direction and that means a lot. Thank you to The University of Manchester.β
Marcus Rashford’s immense role in the campaign against Child Poverty in the United Kingdom saw achieved the following during the COVID-19 period;
- Secured Β£120m free school meals
- Began a charity to feed 2.8m kids
- Campaigned to help the homeless
- Learned sign language to help judge a competition at a deaf school
The University of Manchester Vice President and Vice Chancellor said;

Manchester United’s coach also said;
“We’re so proud of Marcus β what a great person he is.
“The work he’s done shows he cares so much about others. Hopefully he can keep his personality for the rest of his life and keep being himself.”
