Messi and Lewandowski sets up Barcelona vs Bayern Munich Champions League quarterfinal clash

The last-second leg Champions League round of 16 games were played on Saturday, August 8th.

Barcelona 3 Napoli 1

Barcelona hosted Napoli after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

Clement Lenglet put Barcelona in front when he converted a header by Ivan Rakitic in the 10th minute, Lionel Messi scored the second in the 23rd minute.

The Argentine maestro put the ball in the back of the net in the 30th minute but was ruled out. In the 44th minute, Messi again was brought down in the penalty box and Luis Suarez stepped up to convert the spot-kick.

Napoli would also be awarded a penalty in the 44th minute and captain Lorenzo Insigne converted.

There would be no goals in the second half as Barcelona held on t advance.

Bayern Munich 4 Chelsea 1

While Messi was the hero for Barcelona Robert Lewandowski matched him as Bayern Munich welcomed Chelsea after a 3-0 first-leg win.

Lewandowski converted a penalty in the 10th minute to put Bayern Munich ahead and provided the second goal for Ivan Perisic in the 24th minute.

Callum Hudson-Odoi scored in the 28th minute but was canceled. Chelsea pulled one back through Tammy Abraham in the 44th minute.

Lewandowski provided the third for Corentin Tolisso in the 76th minute and headed in a cross by Alvaro Odriozola in the 84th minute to give Bayern a comfortable victory.

The result of both games means Bayern Munich will face Barcelona in the 2019/20 one leg Champions League quarterfinals.
