Mikel Obi opens goals account in Stoke City’s 5-1 pre-season win
Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi did not waste time to start repaying Stoke City’s investment in him when he helped the Potters to a 5-1 pre-season friendly win against Shrewsbury on Tuesday.
Oakley-Boothe opened the scoring for Stoke with a decent low drive on the edge of the box before the Shrews levelled from the spot.
Mikel then pounced to score the second goal for his side, restoring their lead going into half time.
Stoke rang three changes at the interval, Obi Mikel, Fletcher, and Shawcross going out for Ince, Souttar, Campbell respectively.
Martins Indi’s long ball forward that Ince neatly heads past the chasing goalkeeper increased the tally to 3-1 and two carbon copy late goals from Benik Afobe and Tyrese Campbell, slotting in from close range, means it ends 5-1.
Stoke City’s next game is against Blackpool.
