NFF remembers late Samuel Okwaraji who died OTD in 1989
On August 12, 1989, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji died while playing for the Super Eagles of Nigeria against Angola in a World Cup qualification match.
During the course of the game, Okwaraji slumped in the 77th minute and died as a result of congestive heart failure at the Lagos National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State.
30 years from his death, Okwaraji is remembered by the Amaju Pinnick led Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
A message on the official NFF twitter account remembering Okwaraji said, “Today, we remember former @NGSuperEagles midfielder, Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji who passed on to glory, in active service, on this day in 1989. His legend lives forever. Keep resting Soldier. #WeRememberOkwaraji.
